“Early [in] my transition, I had the need to just share some pictures when I started to look back, feel more sexy. And so I created an account …."

Jay is a trans woman who shares intimate content with others who are also going through the process of transitioning. She shares intimate content with fellow individuals in transition to boost body confidence & support those earlier in their journey.

However, Jay is concerned about the potential for violence if members of the religious community she grew up in were to discover her identity as a trans woman. She avoids including any identifying information in her intimate content.

“I asked him to delete all my intimate images and videos, but I don’t know if he really did because we had a hard break up.”

Alice’s husband Bob is deployed overseas. They send each other intimate content to stay connected.

Alice stores intimate content on her devices. But, her 8-year-old son Timmy uses Alice’s phone to play games. He also uses Alice’s Google Drive to store school work.

Alice doesn’t want her son Timmy to find her content.

Alice and Bob later get divorced and she doesn’t want him to have access to her content anymore.

“I don’t think there’s ever been a time where I share content, and I don’t think about the harm that can be caused.”

Peter shares intimate media with potential partners, including strangers, which is the norm in the gay men's dating circles he is in. He has varying levels of trust with his recipients.

Peter aspires to be elected as a council member in his small town so he doesn’t want his media to spread beyond those he shares it with.

He also doesn’t want someone to accidentally see his intimate content because he happened to share it with a recipient in an inopportune moment.

If his content is shared without his consent, Peter wants to be able to trace back who shared it.
